Review: The Philosopher's Stone

The Philosopher's Stone

Colin Wilson

Bookstores are filing The Philosopher's Stone under New Age and that's strange, because technically, it's science fiction. However, Wilson does his homework well and most of the book (up until they stick the pieces of metal into their brains) is non-fiction. Wilson attempts to answer some questions about the ancient past and Man's Purpose through the device of a couple of scientists who accidentally discover how to rein in the everpresent human tendency to become distracted. Finally able to truly concentrate, they begin to explore a variety of perceptions and abilities, no one previously thought possible. Unfortunately, one of their findings, a deeply malevolent force from the past, discovers them as well! The foreword put me to sleep, but don't let that distract you, the rest of the book is interesting to read.
