A friend once asked me what I thought of Clive Barker and I said something like "dunno' -- not familiar with his work, really". If Imajica is any indication, he's a damned genius.
The Earth is only a fifth part of a vast land, the Imajica. It is the only land not connected to the others and thus the Imajica is unreconciled. A reconciliation is only possible every two hundred years and the last attempt was a miserable and bloody failure. The latest is right now and, well, it gets better from there. It's a really terrific book with lots of dancing-on-the-edge-of-understanding scenes. It's almost possible to confuse the characters with each other (seeing as how many of them are exact duplicates), but Barker keeps 'em off each other just fine. The book is big and meaty and quite a bit of time is required to read it, but it's worth the investment.
