A movie project by Guerrilla Productions
ReCreation

A graphic from ReCreation"ReCreation" is a simple and short story, about one man confronting his best friend to help resolve a loss they've both suffered. But, you know us, we couldn't not put a supernatural element in there.

In this case, a distinctly Lovecraftian element...

One of the things few people realize is that Lovecraft was, among other things, a scientist. Although much of cosmological knowledge was of neccesity still budding, he explored it as well as the inner realms of dream and terror. As an appetizer to the concepts we introduce in ReCreation, may I recommend this little essay: Hyperspace and a Theory of Everything, which was forwarded to me by Erik Chevalier.

ReCreation is now available on our new DVD: The Cosmic Horror Fun-Pak, which contains this and many other short movies by Guerrilla Productions, most of which are not available anywhere else!

Production Diary

8-24-2004: Tweaked a few little things. I'm a lot happier with the project! In fact, pending Cyoakha's approval on the music, I'm happy to call it a done deal!

8-23-2004: Color corrected all the video. Added the foley and music.

8-22-2004: The darn project file got corrupted. Crapola! Once I re-installed Premiere, everything worked better, but I have to start the project over from scratch. Fortunately, I'm quicker than I was Friday night...

8-20-2004: Edited.

8-19-2004: Spent all day filtering audio.

8-18-2004: Shot the last scenes at Erik's, the scenes with the framed family photo and the news article. And now to edit!

8-17-2004: This morning, shot the "Family Photo" for the opening sequence. That was a fast trip! This evening wrote the article that accompanies the photo for the prop newspaper. In case you might like to read it, download the 1.2 Mb PDF of the article.

8-14-2004: Shooting Day! We started at 10:00am and shot until I think around 6:30 or so, when the afternoon sun was slanting in all golden and delicious through the window. Usually, shooting went smooth and fast, but on a couple of scenes, we had a real trouble with all sorts of weird factors. Because there was basically no notice, lines were memorized on the fly. Also, it seemed to be the time for fire engines and lawnmowing and all sorts of other loud and unfilterable noises. One scene was just ridiculous -- it took us fourteen takes before we got it right. But we got it. A tape and a half of video. I still have to shoot a "family photo" for a prop, get it back to Eric's, and place the props and shoot two last pickups. Of course, these are crucial pickups...

8-12-2004: Met at Erik's place to assess it for possible shooting. It's perfect! Well, almost. He doesn't have a dining room table. This is no big deal, but it just means we'll have to hump a dining room table over from our house. I'm glad he doesn't live on the coast.

6-21-2004: Met with Erik Chevalier and Aaron Lucchesi this afternoon to go over the storyboards and figure out what we need resource-wise to do this.

6-20-2004: Finished the storyboards.

6-15-2004: After a brief discussion with Erik Chevalier, I modify the ending slightly. This might be better, but I think I'll plan to shoot both endings anyway and check it out in post.

6-10-2004: Script complete.
