We debuted the Let's Make a Movie! workshop at Norwescon, a science fiction convention in the Pacific Northwest. It went over like gangbusters. The workshop is two 2-hour workshops and one 1-hour demonstration. In the first workshop, we introduce technology, cameras, lighting, sound, etc. We hammer out a quickie script of some kind. Then (if necessary), we audition for parts. The second workshop we run around like madmen, shooting the entire movie -- in sequence. At the very tail end of it, we have a cheap-ass wrap party for whoever stuck with the whole project. Finally, at the last demonstration, we show the film we made, as well as anything else that has somehow become associated with us since the last workshop. The workshop honchos this year were Edward Martin III, Ryan K. Johnson, Brian Oberquell, and Leopoldo Marino.
This year's theme for the convention was "Ad Astra", so naturally, our movie played with that theme. For this six-minute epic, we shanghaied as many people as we could find and put them through all kinds of terrible paces. Ah, they loved it.
Ryan Johnson, on his own site, has a great write-up for all our Norwescon movies and it's really very nicely done, including screenshots and everything, so without further ado, go visit Ryan's site!
