Improper filtering

I’ve never been quite sure why we have been so well trained to readily accept and integrate negative judgments about ourselves, yet reject or denigrate affirmations and other external validations that we’re at least worth a damn.

It almost feels as if we’re being set up for some kind of fall later in life, our vital self-assessment skills methodically removed, until the merest feather’s touch of criticism will cripple us.

I plan to keep an eye out for feathers, as well as the people wielding them.
