The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

Production Notes

How the heck are we doing this?

To animate Dream-Quest in any kind of reasonable time and budget, we're doing something odd, animating still sections of the comic. It's more than just a reading of the comic, of course. We're putting together a top-notch batch of voice talent, a unique musical score, and a variety of decidedly unspeakable sound effects to make this the most vivid experience possible.

Post-Production Hardware
We're using a Compaq Presario 7994 900 MHz box to do all the post work (so far!). 512M and at the moment, about 130G of hard drive space.

Post-Production Software
We're using Adobe Premiere v. 5.1c to produce the final product, although pieces will be built using After Effects (which we've recently acquired).

Sound editing is done using GoldWave 4.26, which really seems to kick ass, although I might be a tad happier with multi-track capability. Actually, Premiere has multitrack capability, so who am I kidding -- GoldWave is great.

We're creating a large number of background night scenes and for these, we're using Universe Image Creator which takes up too much of our time just playing around with it! We're also using a variety of Photoshop plug-ins from Flaming Pear Software.

Our image editing software is Adobe Photoshop 5.5. What can I tell you about Photoshop that you haven't already heard before -- I really enjoy using this software. I used it on my short film The Testament of Tom Jacoby and I expect I'll keep using it as long as keep making movies, or until I can afford to pay for a magical black box. Some of the animators are using different editing software. If I can find out, I'll post it here.
