The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

Greetings, Dreamers!

As much as I would like to claim this will be a short note, that would be simply a fib. I'm somewhat chatty this evening. Plus, I have lots of neat news. We're still going nuts, but it's a good nuts!

The sound effects are in! Now we only await the music. Much of that has come in already and Cyoakha is busily making more as time draws nigh. While she does that, I am updating a few pieces of animation, seeing what small tweaks I can make that result in a more effective movie. A lot of this is playing with sound effects, though. Many sound effects...

This was your hapless Director's first year at Burning Man and I must say I was awed. I have never been in the presence of such a freaky, focused fountain of creative energy. 30,000 people gather for a week, and then essentially vanish. I've tried to think of a variety of ways to describe it, but frankly, I can't. Well, I could, but it would involve spending a week in the desert with 30,000 highly creative and weird people. Land of the Blind, who provides us our eerie, mysterious, and beautiful soundtrack, played four concerts in Center Camp, each one better than the previous. I've often wondered if I can get too much of them live, but I think the answer is still "What -- they're playing? I am soooo there!" I took many pictures, some of which are actually good, and will post the pertinent (and impertinent) ones to the website in good time. I met old friends, found people I haven't seen in years, and made new friends. I cannot recommend it for everybody, but for those well suited, I recommend it highly. Visit http://www.burningman.com/ if you want to learn more.

I'm wrapping up a Press Kit for the movie and preparing Press Releases. Whew! Who should get one?

We here at Dream-Quest Central are very happy to announce that our short film "The Call of Cthulhu", has been accepted by the Second Portland International Short-Short Film Festival! http://www.zonkerfilms.com/ Yay! So, if any of you are in the Portland area, the movies will be shown September 26 at the Hollywood Theater and September 27 at Itisness. See their website for more details. We'll certainly be at the Hollywood Theater, so track one of us down and introduce yourself!

We just started making official plans for the Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath Release Party, which will probably be the afternoon of October 11, depending on the schedule of the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival. Please, if you are Cast or Crew, contact me immediately to RSVP, so I can better plan. After we wedge the Cast and Crew in, there will probably be more tickets, so if you're going to the Festival and you feel like joining us, track me down and let me know -- I'll probably have a wad of tickets on me, but they'll be first-come, first-served. The venue is really, really cool!

Speaking of the Film Festival, now is the time to start planning. If you're in the Portland area, it's really a no-brainer, but if you're coming in from out of town, there are a couple of things it might be helpful to know. The Hollywood Theater is right on the Max line, which is our version of light rail. That means you can get accommodations anywhere along the Max line and have cheap-ass high quality transport to and from the Festival all weekend. The Max runs very regularly and is quiet and clean. Downtown Portland has many beautiful hotels and they're all walking distance from at least one Max station.

If you prefer accommodations close to the Hollywood Theater, we spotted three motels within easy walk: The Hollywood Express Inn at Hancock and 40th, the Banfield Hotel, and the Econolodge at Sandy and 38th. These are all in the Hollywood District. I've never stayed at them, so I cannot attest to anything. For those of you who usually camp at our house, contact us immediately -- we're gonna be packed that weekend and I want to make sure there are no surprises. Chances are, we'll still all fit, but it'll be very, um, friendly.

One of my last bits in this newsletter is a bit of goofiness forwarded by our Evil Merchant. Seems Randolph Carter's been getting into more trouble than he bargained for... http://www.geocities.com/steerp1ke/David_Ehi.html This kinda' reminds me of our little prank: http://www.petting-zoo.org/HLovecraft.html.

Over and out!

Have fun! Dream! Live!

Cheers,

Edward
