Newsletter -- August 10, 2003

Greetings, Dreamers!

Have you been watching Mars? It's coming closer. Sure, scientists SAY it'll head back out, but wouldn't this be an ideal time to launch an invasion from the Red Planet? After all, we're the ones that got all the water, right? "Hey," those Martians might be wanting to say, "Grok THIS bad-ass laser!" and then ka-zow!

It's also a full moon for those of you on Earth and that, of course, means that things are going to be even hairier than expected.

Welcome to this evidently-monthly installment of the newsletter for Guerrilla Productions' feature "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath". There have been several newsletters prior to this, so if you're new and you want to catch up, go to the movie website (address at the bottom of the page) and click the "News" tab.

You can keep a little closer to the action by perusing the Production Diary, which includes more rambling than you can shake an Evil Flute at.

A few people have been wondering what's been going on and it's been a busy month, so I'll let you in on things.

First of all, unless something really terrible happens, we will be premiering at the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival this year. Woo hoo! This is very good to know, as there are people coming in from all over, including Australia (which is about as far as a human can come)!

We're definitely planning some kind of release party, but we're not sure of the details yet. It might be big, it might be small, it might short or it might be tall. It'll definitely have Zoog-shaped cookies, for those of you who saw the pictures on the website and want more Zoog cookies.

Second is actual progress on the movie. I've been laying in lots of sound effects and ambience. Currently, we're at the 62-minute mark, which is well past halfway. Let me tell you something -- the sound effects and the background ambience have just pushed this movie -- in my mind anyway -- to the ultra-cool stage. It's like watching a sad little nub you've been watering all summer suddenly bloom into something profoundly beautiful... that then eats your face. It's awesome. On the downside, creating sounds for such things as "a ring of angry, growling, threatening Shantak birds" is a bit tricky.

If anyone feels like doing a bit of volunteer foley, I would be most interested!

Third thing is sorta' two different things: I've been doing the design work for the DVD case and the contents of the DVD. Actually, I've got quite a few cool things lined up for the DVD, including at least two bonus short films (maybe four!) theatrical trailers, bios, and -- if I can figure out how -- alternate audio tracks. Anyone out there know how to set up alternate audio tracks using DVDLab?

I definitely want to thank all the people who have helped and this time, I want to thank especially the people who are in and around my day-to-day life. As the deadlines loom quickly like a rising moon in the night, I am becoming increasingly frantic, panicked, schitzy, and even bitchy and the people around me are either oblivious to it, or incredibly tolerant. My family and my friends rock this world -- no two ways about it.

Finally, speaking of things beyond belief, if any of you out there are likely to be at Burning Man in the next couple of weeks, do try to look me up and say hi! Our wonderful composer Cyoakha will also be there (although I have no idea where she's staying).

Now it's time for me to get back on my head -- coffee break's over!

Have fun! Dream! Live!

Cheers,

Edward
