A Piece of the Animation Sequence

For each page of the layouts, there are one or more images. Some images, such as this one, have several elements upon which I want to focus during a sequence of scenes. The red rectangles represent each scene. So in this case, there are 4 separate scenes in this sequence, numbered "1" through "4", cleverly enough.
The handwritten notes above describe any special treatment I want for these scenes. In this case, there are three different things I'm calling for:
- "use live starfield" by which I mean instead of the plain black in the background, I'll put in something that looks like a "real" starfield. In dream, some things have a plastic abstract reality and some things are astoundingly razor sharp. I'm using a sharp sky in scenes with night skies because of the hyperreality of such a thing.
- "How to 'stream' nightgaunts" is one of the many questions I ask myself as I'm working on this thing. On ocasion, I like to try and make the animation better and better (which is probably why I'm freaking out now about the schedule). One of the things I'm trying to do is add a little life in the especially dynamic scenes. I think watching waves upon waves of nightgaunts is an especially powerful image, so I made a note to myself to try and figure out how to do this.
- "Separate: mountains, clouds of nightgaunts, Carter & co." means that if I want to make the most animation from this scene, I want to separate these elements from the background.
What I'm discovering as I move along in the production is that (Ooooh, big surprise!) I can't do all the animation and motion that I want. I'm just not skilled enough with this sort of thing. I learn with each scene and many of my assistants are flat-out kickers of ass in the animation department, but I'm just limited. I know many people who would wait until they thought they were better, but I know that's a trap. Right now, I'm better than I was a year ago. In a year, I'll be even better. And I'll still think I'm not good enough. So I shoot the damn thing and keep going. Every movie I do, I realize that if I re-did it, I could do better, but then I decide to not redo it, but to simply do better on the next movie. And you know what -- I do! Plus, I get a lot of movies done.
