The Application
Alternate History is one of those rare and wonderful disciplines that we all engage in at one time or another. At its simplest level, it's a game of playing "what if?".
What if the Pilgrims had fallen prey to the Bermuda Triangle and the New World remained well defended for another hundred years, eventually populated from the south by the Incans?
What if we had stumbled onto some sort of crazy magnetic-hyperspace drive in the 19th Century?
What if the War of Northern Aggression had been successfully repelled and the States were now virtually independent?
What if religion were widely considered a mental illness?
What if... well, you get the picture. Alternate histories. Things that didn't happen, but might have happened -- if only!
